Devotion for Healing - Mark 16:15-20
Roy Fowler
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation, that is the whole human race. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs, miracles and wonders will accompany, be present and follow those who believe: In my name they will forcefully expel and drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues they have not known or learned; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will by no means hurt or harm them at all; they will lay their hands on sick people, and they will recover and be healed and get fully, all the way well.
After the Lord Jesus Yah-shua had spoken to them, He was taken up and received into heaven and He sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked in partnership with them and confirmed His word by the signs and wonders and miracles that accompanied and closely followed it. (RFAV)
1) And these signs, miracles and wonders will accompany, be present and follow those who believe
All of the following signs, miracles and wonders in Mark 16:17-20 will accompany and follow those who believe. So how can believers have these signs and miracles everywhere they go? How did Jesus have signs and miracles everywhere he went?
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (NIV)
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (NKJV)
It takes regular secret prayer to have more and more of the power of God in your life. How much did it take for Azusa Street? William Seymore prayed 5 ½ hours a day for 3 ½ years. Then, when he moved to Los Angeles and prayed 7 hours a day for 2 ½ years before Azusa street came. We can’t all spend that much time in prayer, but we do need to have regular secret prayer and times for extended prayer.
2) In my name they will forcefully expel and drive out demons
Can driving out demons help healing?
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (KJV)
If Jesus healed all the people he healed by dealing with the oppression of the devil, then deliverance does help in healing.
“While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, ‘Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.’” (NIV)
Jesus healed this man who was mute by diving out the mute demon.
3) they will speak in new tongues they have not known or learned
Can speaking in tongues help healing?
“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. . He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself..” (NIV)
“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) (Praying in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. See 1 Cor 14:14-15)
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” (NIV)
Praying in tongues (along with Bible and prayer in understanding) helps grow intimacy with God and the power of God in our life. Pray in tongues with the laying on of hands for healing.
4) they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will by no means hurt or harm them at all
This is not an invitation to picking up snakes or drinking poison on purpose. But if, by chance we get bitten by a snake or eat or drink something harmful, we can say this Scripture over us to declare by faith “it will by no means hurt or harm (me) at all.” Also we can declare a statement by faith using Acts 28:5, “In the name of Jesus this poison will have no ill effects in my body.”
5) they will lay their hands on sick people, and they will recover and be healed and get fully, all the way well.
We need to remember how simple this statement is, “believers will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” We can simply lay hands on the area and say, “In the name of Jesus and by Jesus stripes, I command healing in this area. Out of my belly is flowing streams of living water, and these streams of the Holy Spirit are flowing through my arms and hands into this area for healing. Thank You Jesus!”
6) Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked in partnership with them and confirmed His word by the signs and wonders and miracles that accompanied and closely followed it.
We need to remember that God confirms His Word with signs following. It is a partnership with God. We speak His Word to the sick person and to the sick area and God will confirm His Word with signs following.
We can say something like this, “God’s Word in Matthew 8:16-17 says that Jesus bore our infirmities for us so we don’t have to bear the infirmity and Jesus carried away our diseases so we don’t have to keep them and according to Isaiah 53:5, when they whipped Jesus with a whip, by Jesus’ stripes we are healed. Therefore, Jesus we ask you to now bear this infirmity and carry it away and we thank You that by Your stripes we are healed and by faith we thank You for this healing. Amen!”
Believers can have signs, wonders and miracles accompany and follow them wherever they go, so remember to regularly have secret prayer so that God will answer You openly and accompany you with signs following.
And don’t forget to lay hands on the sick and they WILL RECOVER! And if they are not healed the first time, take this prescription: continue until healed! Continue praying with laying on of hands each week or each month until the person is healed. Don’t give up!
Heb 10:35-36
“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (NIV)
Keep on perservering! Don’t give up!
JESUS IS LORD!
